New York City Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving

If you are going to find yourself in NYC this Thanksgiving taking in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade you might be wondering where you can grab a bite to eat. Well, just because you are in New York does not mean that you can’t find a good Thanksgiving dinner! In fact, there are tons of restaurants open in the city that are serving up traditional Thanksgiving fare, as well as some that are doing it a little bit differently.

Snack Hack for any Holiday: Themed Soft Pretzels!

Looking for an easy snack to keep on hand to keep the kids (or sneaky adults) out of the kitchen? Make holiday-themed soft pretzels. Soft pretzels are a filling, low-calorie snack to have on hand all year long. Just shape them up for the holidays.

Recipe: Soft Pretzels

This is a super simple soft pretzel recipe that can be fashioned into any shape and are great with dips.

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/3 c flour
½ tsp salt
1 ½ tsp yeast
1 c hot water
1 1/3 c flour
1 tsp sugar or maple syrup
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp water
salt

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Combine first 1 1/3 c flour, yeast, salt, 1 tsp sugar (or maple syrup) and one cup very warm water
Mix for 3 minutes
Add last 1 1/3 c flour
Knead for 3 minutes
If dough is sticky, continue to add flour until dough no longer sticks to your hands
Divide dough into 10 even pieces
Roll each piece into a 12 inch rope
Line baking sheet or cake pan with foil
Shape into designs on foil
Beat egg yolk with 1 tbsp water
Coat pretzels lightly with egg mixture
Sprinkle with salt
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes

Let cool on baking rack

Store no longer than two days

Recipe: Honey Soft Pretzels

A sweet twist on a simple recipe, these honey pretzels are great with any kind of sweet dipping sauce or just on their own.

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/3 c flour
½ tsp salt
1 ½ tsp yeast
1 c hot water
1 1/3 c flour
1 tsp honey
1-2 tbsp honey
salt

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Combine first 1 1/3 c flour, yeast, salt, 1 tsp honey and one cup very warm water
Mix for 3 minutes
Add last 1 1/3 c flour
Knead for 3 minutes
If dough is sticky, continue to add flour until dough no longer sticks to your hands
Divide dough into 10 even pieces
Roll each piece into a 12 inch rope
Line baking sheet or cake pan with foil
Shape into designs on foil
Spread a light honey layer on pretzels
Sprinkle with salt
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes

Let cool on baking rack

Store no longer than two days
