Holiday Bread Dipping Oil

Popular as an appetizer in mostly Italian restaurants, there can be as many variations of dipping oils as their are spice combinations, so it’s not an entirely Italian delicacy. A spice combination can be created to go with any meal. Any kind of basic fresh bread, white, wheat, sourdough, etc, can be dipped.

One of the simplest oil dipping recipes is simply fresh ground black pepper and olive oil. It’s hot and tasty. But if that doesn’t appeal to you, try this instead.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon marjoram
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS:

Mix all dry ingredients together well.

Pour olive oil onto a saucer or small plate.

Sprinkle spice mix on top of oil.

Variations of this recipe include adding 1/4 teaspoon rosemary -or- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper. Either one of these two spices can be overpowering, though, so add at your own risk.
