A Thanksgiving To Do List

It is the weekend before Thanksgiving – are you prepared for the big day?

You should already know what you are making and have all of the recipes that you need for the big feast. You also should have already decided what size turkey you will be needing to feed the family. So, what is the next step?

Well, you should sit down this weekend with your recipes and make a detailed shopping list. You do not want to have to go back to the store for a zillion things. You will end up at the store the day before Thanksgiving just like you always do. It’s some sick schadenfreude that the universe is responsible for.

By Monday night you should make that trip to the store with your detailed list. Do your self a favor and leave the kids at home for this shopping trip.

On Tuesday you should plan on making anything that is served chilled. A good example here is cranberry sauce, assuming you are not serving it out of a can. Once you do this you can stash the dishes in the fridge until Thursday.

On Wednesday you will inevitably be at the grocery store again – with everyone else that has realized that they have forgotten some key ingredients. Do yourself a favor and sniff some lavender essential oil or take a moment to relax because this will be stressful store trip. Also make sure you chop any vegetables today that you will use in recipes on Thursday. And pre-assemble as much as you can of the sides that you will be serving. Before the end of the night make sure you have someone empty the trash – tomorrow’s guest will fill it up and you don’t want it to overflow and have trash in the floor to clean up.

Thursday is the big day! If you realize you are missing something you need from the store, do yourself a favor and call a family member that is coming to dinner and ask them to pick the item up for you. If they refuse threaten to withhold turkey from them. :)

While you are roasting that delicious turkey you can spend time making the side dishes that you will serve with it as well as any desserts that have not yet been made. And if any desserts are best served warm – have them heat while everyone is eating.
