The Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens

The Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens has long been a favorite among locals in Baltimore and you can enjoy it this year from November 28, 2008 - January 4, 2009. At the Garden of Lights you will see over a half a million lights that make up a half-mile lit up garden, now in its 12th year. This is a pretty popular place around the holidays so, make sure you plan your trip early and during the week if you want to miss most of the crowds. Note that The Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens is closed on Christmas eve, Christmas Day. They do have a hotline that you can call for updates, especially if the weather is bad, at (301) 962 - 1453. Admission to it is $15 for cars or van. Hours are from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm with the last car being admitted at 8:30 pm. Brookside Gardens is located at 1500 Glenallen Ave, Wheaton, MD 20902. Winter Festival of Lights at Watkins Regional Park

If you want to see animated displays made up of a million twinkling lights in a drive through the park then you need to check out the Winter Festival of Lights at Watkins Regional Park. Dates & hours are: Nov. 28-Jan. 1, 2009:5 -9:30 p.m. Friday-Thursday, Nov. 28-Jan. 1, 2009. You can find it at 301 Watkins Park Dr.
Upper Marlboro, MD. Remember that you are encouraged to bring canned goods for donation to local food banks. Price: $5 car or minivan; $15 mini-bus, bus or limo.

Annapolis Christmas Lights Boat Parade

Looking for something free and festive? If so, you need to check out the Annapolis Christmas Lights Boat Parade. It takes place on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the Annapolis Harbor at 1 Dock Street, Annapolis, MD. You will be able to see a parade of over 70 power and sailboats showing off their holiday decorations.

Frederick Festival of Lights

For a more interesting display of holiday lights, check out the Frederick Festival of Lights. This is a free event that takes place on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7pm at Frederick City Hall, which is located at 101 N Court St, Frederick, MD. You can see carolers walk through the streets of downtown Frederick, leading residents and visitors to city hall for caroling and a seasonal message. At city hall, each participant receives a candle. During the final carol, candles are lit one by one — the flame passed from one person to the next — until the whole area is filled with light.

ZooLights

If you want to enjoy the zoo and a walk-through show of more than 750,000 lights then you need to check out ZooLights at the National Zoological Park - Smithsonian Institution. It is located at 3001 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC. You can catch this event between November 28 through December 30, 2008.
